Unreleased Playground Album & PopKid's Rise From The Ashes

Welcome to 2015 everyone.  It has been an incredibly long time since we've updated this poor little website, but rest assured we are still here, filling orders for back catalog records and planning world domination.

First up is that our friends from Davis, CA have unleashed their long lost full length album into the world.  You may remember Playground from PKD001, the If You Were Me 7".  It's the record that started it all for PopKid.  Playground was also meant to be one of the first bands to release a full length for PopKid in 1996.  No Angel was recorded and ready to go, but the band split and the record just disappeared.

It's a crime, because this album is so completely phenomenal.  If you are even remotely into Jawbreaker influenced melodic punk rock, this record is essential.  The sounds of the 90's are experiencing something of a renaissance these days, but No Angel isn't a throw back.  It's an authentic piece of 1996 finally available to hear.

Playground has put this up on Bandcamp as a pay what you want download.  We strongly urge you to check it out.  In a perfect world, we would love to have this released on vinyl as well.  If the demand is there or if any other labels want to step up and co-release it, maybe that's something that can happen.

In other, slightly more cryptic news, unless something changes PopKid records will officially be back this year.  We are planning to release a full length vinyl record from one of our very favorite current bands.  It's a co-release with some other tremendous record labels and we cannot wait to tell you more about it.  PopKid records is 21 years old in 2015.  We feel old, but we're getting back in the game!

Not Dead Yet

Things have been a little quiet here at PopKid HQ for the last few months, and for that I apologize.  We're biding our time, raising our money and have some fun things planned.

At some point in the next couple of months we will be have another digital only release.  It will be a 3 way split between Porcelain Boys, Horace Goes Skiing & Beezewax - Live on WFMU.  back in the 90's all 3 bands stopped in at WFMU and proceeded to make with the rock and roll.  We've had DATs of all 3 performances hanging out here at HQ for far too long.

We also have a Chester Copperpot vinyl release that again has been brewing for far too long.  We've nearly saved up enough money for that, but we need just a bit more.

Which brings me to...PopKid Spring Cleaning Savings!

I get it, people don't really care about CDs like they used to.  Here at PopKid records we still have a lot of CDs left, so we've made a cheapo bundle of everything that's left in print.  Buy it, get these CDs out of here and help us bring in some new vinyl.

Here's what you get:
Beat Crusaders - All you Can Eat
Beezewax - South Of Boredom
Chester Copperpot - The Kings Of Kirby
Crushstory - A+ Electric
Kenneth Ishak - Northern Exposure
Jettison - Search For The Gun Girl
***And the first 2 people that order will get as a bonus the last 2 copies of the Porcelain Boys CD Away Awhile that we have left - Limited to TWO COPIES LEFT***

How much would you pay for this bundle? Well the retail price of a set like this using 1990's major label pricing could exceed $113.88.  However, nothing about that sentence applies here. You get everything for $25 - About 4 bucks a CD.

Sale will go on through the holiday weekend next week, ending on Tuesday, May 28th. or until we run out of any of the CDs.  I think we're lowest on Beezewax & Kenneth Ishak, but still have at least 10 of each.

Buy Here: PopKid.limitedrun.com

So, please buy some CDs.  You can probably play them in your car, so there's that. At the end of the day these are some records that we love and we're really proud that they came out on PopKid. You can check everything out on our Bandcamp page before you buy, but have a listen, pick up some new tunes and put us a bit closer to being able to put out some new vinyl.

Thanks!

New Release: Keepsake - Undertow 7"

In an ideal world, this post would actually be touting the release of a new piece of PopKid vinyl.  For the time being this single won't be pressed on vinyl, but we've kept these songs a secret from the world for far too long.

This was meant to be a 7" that was going to be released around 1997-1998, though even by then this amazing band had called it a day.  Keepsake was based out of New Jersey, was only around for a brief moment, but managed to crank out 3 truly incredible songs.  Longing for the days when guitar bands were more like Mega City Four, Senseless Things or the Doughboys? This single is for you.

For the time being, you can go to our Bandcamp page and download MP3s, FLAC files or whatever format you like of this record.  It's $2.  If there is an overwhelming demand or if we sell hundreds of these downloads, we will absolutely look into a proper vinyl pressing at some point.  But for now, we just want to share some songs that we love with the rest of the pop kids out there. Thanks & Enjoy!

New PopKid Release Coming Next Week

It's the first new release on PopKid in almost 10 years!  Granted, we wish it could be a new slab of vinyl, but we've got plans for that soon.  Next week, for the first time ever, you will be able to get MP3s on Bandcamp for the long lost, never released Keepsake - Undertow 7". PKD008.  We'll spin more tales about this record next week, but just wanted to alert everyone.

Thanks for reading!

Chester Copperpot T Shirts Now For Sale

We've dug up another gem here at PopKid HQ, we found a stash of Chester Copperpot shirts that were made up for the release of their great album The Kings of Kirby.  These shirts were made up in 2004, but I'm pretty sure the only people that have these shirts are in the band and us PopKids.  You should have one too.

It's a natural colored shirt (a really light tan) with brown ink, establishing the fact that Chester Copperpot has been a musical force since 1990.  That's a long time to be so great.

We're selling the shirt 2 ways:

You can buy the shirt by itself (and pick up some Vinyl & CDs while you are at it) over at PopKid.limitedrun.com.  The shirts are $10 plus shipping.

OR

You can buy the shirt bundles with MP3s of the Chester Copperpot album The Kings of Kirby from our Bandcamp page: http://popkid.bandcamp.com. You can grab this bundle for only $12! (Really, you get the MP3s for free, we're just covering our costs for Bandcamp to take a cut of the sale.)

Either way, you're going to be looking good Billy Ray!

Ultimate Fakebook / The Stereo Split 7" Now On Bandcamp

We've been pretty busy here at PopKid HQ and we've been going through the archives to find some
old forgotten gems to share with everyone.  The first order of business is that we have made digital versions of the songs from the Ultimate Fakebook / The Stereo split 7" and made them available on Bandcamp.

this was the only 7" that we had on Bandcamp that you weren't able to buy digitally, but we've made new files direct from the original DAT tape.  It sounds wonderful.  And only $2.  That's less money than it costs to buy a snap bracelet: http://popkid.bandcamp.com/album/ultimate-fakebook-the-stereo-split-7

Don't forget, we still have copies of the actual 7" on Black Vinyl (/700) and on limited white vinyl (/300) at our Big Cartel store: PopKid.limitedrun.com.

More to come, including PopKid records that were recorded but never released.  We're going to fill out those empty catalog numbers!
